Pre
race comment
Kimi
Raikkonen - “Clearly the championship situation is what it is,
but I’m not the sort to give up that easily.”
Felipe
Massa - "It is now looking very interesting in terms of the championship,
as I am just two points behind, but there are still five races to go and
we need to do a good job. I am really motivated to havea great race there,
especially in front of all our home fans, but we need to concentrate and
be strong all weekend.
Arriving
at Monza as the winner of the last race is a boost, and we also had a good
test there the week before Spa. We did a lot of mileage, which was important
from the reliability point of view, especially on the engine front, which
will be a key element for the coming races. We also did a lot of mileage
running the low downforce Monza aero package, and I think the results were
generally okay. Thanks to some changes on the suspension, we managed to
improve the way the car works over the kerbs, which is so important at
this track.
Let's
wait and see what happens. Personally, I can't wait to be back of the race
track after that unusual Sunday afternoon in Spa."
Timo
Glock (having reluctantly accepted the penalty at Spa) - "We have
to push hard to score points because every point is important to us in
the fight for fourth in the constructors' championship.
We
have the hard compound Bridgestone tyres again so warm-up might be a bit
tricky, although I expect the weather will be much better than in Belgium
so that should help.
The
test went pretty well for us and we did some good work on the Monza aero
package but you never really know what the situation is in testing.
We'll
have to wait and see on but we definitely have the potential to score more
points.”
Robert
Kubica - "Looking at what happened last season, where Kimi had
a huge gap with two races to go and he won the championship, you have to
try your best and that's what I am trying to do. I am trying my best to
try and fight for the championship. From my point of view it is very
clear. I am a racing driver and I am fighting for my best, and when I am
doing my best I am doing it for myself and for the team. It
is clear that if I score eight points they go to the team and to my account,
but maybe the priority of late of the team has been a bit different from
myself. That is why you getthis feeling, and to be honest I also
get this feeling a bit, that maybe I am the only stupid one or crazy one
who is thinking about fighting for the championship this season.
While there is the chance I have to go for it and I hope the team is doing
the same, and I believe they are trying."
Lewis
Hamilton - "I still have a two-point lead and we are going to make
sure that we just continue to attack and perform like we did in the last
two races. He (Massa) is the one who has to work damn hard to keep
up with. I feel like I'm coming here off a win, and moving onto the
next race."
